New study plans for University of Porto — Faculty of Fine Arts’ 1st cycle courses after 2005/2006 are a direct consequence of Bologna Process compliance strategies. We have revamped and reshaped the syllabus. We are left with two BAs: Fine Arts and Communication Design.

Study plans start off jointly and branch out into two specialized fields. Students must choose for themselves among many optional possibilities. They will chart their own academic route to a large extent, turning the institution into a crossbreeding lab for several scientific areas. Both study plans will be grounded and enmeshed in the notion that 1st cycle courses must be open-ended and foster a full learning experience for a solid background in the arts without compromising future choices.

Arts and Design are, therefore, conceived as mutually dependent and share a considerable amount of compulsory and optional subject-matters. University of Porto — Faculty of Fine Arts’ BAs run through 8 semesters, totalling 240 ECTS credits.
