Contemporary Artistic Practices

Recent changes and speedy developments in artistic methods have not affected the old-fashioned ways of art schooling. This graduate course proposes a conceptual and chronological alignment with these methods. A first territorial claim would be the naming of a post-medial scope, i.e., aiming at the research and debate of contemporary artistic practices and know-how through the presuppositional gateways of its expanded practical playgrounds.

This know-how includes a second postulate: a claim for a self-established epistemology devoted to artistic research. More than just a historicist label, our goal is to actively question contemporary art as a privileged territory of debate and experimentation stretching out to non-aesthetic research arenas. With such a wide approach and broad scope, we intend to overflow the boundaries and create an epistemology geared towards artistic questioning and to meditate – by spreading borders instead of merely containing the elements – on other subjects, especially those directly questioning any connection with realities with which art contextualizes itself for existential sustenance.

Wrapped around these thoughts are new technological mechanisms, an increasing drive in artistic creation. These open roads were built by techno-scientific developments whose growth has exploded during these last decades. This is the time and space of contemporary artistic practices.
